The city of Petra, the capital of the Nabatean Arabs, is considered one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world and the most important tourist attraction in Jordan.

Over the years, the Petra Regional Authority has worked to modernize and develop the process of collecting and classifying tourism statistics, and to document all studies, excavations, and explorations related to the Petra Archaeological Park, in coordination with all partners. This information has been made available to those interested in the tourism sector, researchers, and academics, to support decision-makers in planning processes. To achieve these goals, the Center for Archaeological Documentation and Tourism Studies was established.
