The Painted Biclinium
The Painted Biclinium
A dining hall with benches along two of its walls, this biclinium has a vaulted alcove at the back. The painting covering the ceiling is the only surviving example of the intricate Nabataean painting and dates back to the 1st century. The drawing depicts grape vines, flowers, various birds and cherubic figures. There was once a medallion in the center of the ceiling. Along the western rockface, overlooking the threshold of the biclinium, is a small rectangular niche with a carved baetyl representing Dushara.
