Shkarat Msaied

Shkarat Msaied

Shkarat Msaied is located in the sandstone mountains 16km north of Petra in the Namala region right next to the track leading from Wadi Musa into Wadi Araba, and on the way to Feynan.   It stretches over 1,000-square-meter, resting on a small plateau 1,000m above sea level.   The plateau has been used for agricultural activities in the Nabataean and recent times.   The site dates to the first half of the “Pre-Pottery Neolithic B” (7300 BC - 5900 BC) period.   The architecture of Shkarat Msaied consists of circular rooms or round houses that are almost rectangular but have curving walls and round corners.
