The Department of Antiquities is a governmental institution affiliated to the Jordanian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.It was established in Transjordan in 1923 as a branch of the Department of Antiquities of Palestine, and later separated in its management from the British Mandate Government of Palestine in 1928 and became an independent department, where it was managed by Mr. Reda Tawfiq.In 1934, the first legislative law for antiquities was issued in Jordan.
