High Place Trail

High Place Trail (3hrs to 3:30hrs)

Degree of difficulty: Difficult

As its name suggests, the High Place sits above the main area of Petra. Arriving here requires a steep climb, but the view will be rewarding. The trail starts shortly after the exit from the outer Siq, where you will climb up ancient Nabataean steps. At the top, you can stop at the panoramic view before turning right to descend to Wadi Farasa in order to see the Lion Fountain, the Garden Triclinium, the Roman Soldier Tomb, the Renaissance Tomb and Az Zantur excavation. As you follow the main trail to the Street of the Facades, you branch off the left before reaching the theater, where you find steps that lead up to the High Place of Sacrifice.
